VALO Installation
An intervention to urban chaos. VALO uses light and shadows against voronoi walls to create an immersive atmosphere to evoke a sense of mindfulness. Instead of being users, VALO invites each person to be a co-creator of the experience.
My design process begun with pen to paper: sketching and experimentation. After making 2D graphic layouts of the installation, I modeled my voronoi shapes using Grasshopper on Rhino 3D. I tested a few different voronoi cell sizes to arrive at the perfect sizing to achieve the most ideal shadow casting effects. After 3D printing, the next step was experimenting with lighting sources and arrangements of the voronoi walls (user testing). Finally, I did the branding for the installation: and VALO was born. VALO only currently exists in small-scale prototype version, which are magnetic pieces that are encouraged to be interacted with and arranged into different formations. In life-scale, the idea is that the walls can be modular and arranged differently based on the different spatial contexts that it is placed into. I did product photos and videos, using a greenscreen to add myself walking around for contextual and spatial awareness.
